Gentry's Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day PledgePage: Lee & Jennifer (walkers) and Gwen (crew)
Why are we doing this?
Lee: Fat, bald and 60...and I'm gonna walk 60 miles???? It all started with a phone call from our dear friend Kim Rau (the wuss!) challenging us that if we would walk, she would walk with us. Jennifer and I accepted the challenge..made our commitments and started our training...then Kim wussed out. 'Nuff said...but we do expect good sponsorship from Pennsylvania! Jennifer: I thought Kim's challenge was a great idea. Walking 60 miles in 3 days, camping on the hard cold ground, waiting in line for hours for a shower, blisters, chaffing... and I can't belive she wussed out on us! I signed up for Weight Watchers and this walk in the same week. I figured a double wammy like that would be the push I need to get off my butt. So far so good... I'm hitting the gym 4-5 times a week (that's 5 hours a week NOT spent at my desk!) and hitting the local trails with dad on the weekends (why is it he insists on walking when it is snowing, but not when it is sunny?). So here's to every little step... in training and in the fight against breast cancer. Lee again: Actually, my walking started even earlier. I was accepted into the LookAhead study for the long term effects of weight loss and execise for Type II diabetics. I was "randomized" into the intense intervention group and have to attend weekly meetings and report my progress....kinda like AA. This opportunity to participate in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-day has become a great motivator and goal that applies to both the fight against breast cancer and my personal LookAhead commitments. |
